Policy Statement

Altitude First International facilitates the theoretical delivery of course information through an online learning management system (LMS) accessed via the AFI portal.

Regional course facilitators assess the practical competency of the student and are responsible for the accreditation or endorsement by their regional industry bodies.

The foundation course in simulated altitude training (SAT) is designed for accredited fitness industry professionals and strength and conditioning coaches with an interest in the theoretical and practical application of simulated altitude training for their clients and athletes.  The foundations course includes an overview of the history of SAT, terminology, physiological adaptations to SAT in response to a variety of training conditions, client screening and assessment, SAT progression, integration and periodisation and workout structure and session planning.

Attendance of the theoretical eLearning course must be completed in full. A 100% pass mark is required before the student is eligible for practical assessment. Please refer to the marking criteria in the Foundations Course Practical Workbook and the Assessment Matrix Submission form 1 for all competencies and assessment items.

Students are expected to take a significant level of responsibility for their own learning. Students are expected  to  “read  around”  the  topic,  consult  a  variety  of  other  learning  materials,  rather  than  relying on the presentation slides that are occasioned by each lecture. Students are encouraged throughout the subject to take the initiative to identify, apply and integrate material from other subjects and other sources to the present subject. Interact and make use of the course forum within the AFI eLearning portal.

Expressions of interest should be submitted through the AFI website or directly to the regional course facilitator. Students are invited to enrol by their regional course facilitator. The enrolment form and course key will be delivered via email. The SAT Foundations course is intended for fitness professionals or sports coaches and has a prerequisite of CERT IV in fitness (AUS) or regional equivalent. If you are in doubt that you do not meet the prerequisite, this should be discussed with the regional course facilitator before enrolment.
